Sir:-

With reference to your letter 33212/1919 of the

6th instant, I am directed by Earl Curzon of Kedleston

to point out that Lord Milner has never requested him

to obtain the prohibition of the importation into the

Netherland East Indies of Siamese rice on private account.

2. If Lord Milner desires that this should be done,

Lord Curzon is prepared to instruct His Majesty's Chargé d'Affaires at Bangkok to communicate direct with His Majesty's

Consul General at Batavia on the subject, with a view to

requesting the Local Government to enact such a prohibition

in question.

I am,

Sir,

Your most obedient

humble Servant,

E. Kellesley

The Under Secretary of State,

Colonial Office.
